Sukanta, Locket and others arrive at 'Groom-to-be' Dilip Ghosh's house

Bengal BJP veteran and former state president Dilip Ghosh is tying the knot at the age of 61, and his wedding has created quite a buzz, both within and outside the political circles. On Friday morning, several top BJP leaders visited his Newtown residence, bearing gifts and extending their warm wishes to the groom-to-be.

Among the visiting leaders were Bengal BJP president Sukant Majumdar, MPs Locket Chatterjee and Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, along with national leaders Sunil Bansal and Mangal Pandey. The leaders spent considerable time at Dilip Ghosh's residence, where they presented him with flowers, sweets, and a traditional dhoti. They also interacted warmly with Dilip’s mother, who is believed to have played a key role in encouraging the wedding.

The visit came amid speculation that the party was not fully supportive of Dilip’s decision to marry at this stage in life. Rumors had circulated suggesting internal opposition from within the BJP about the wedding, particularly given Dilip’s long association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), where celibacy is often idealized.

However, Sukant Majumdar brushed off such concerns. When asked about the party’s stance on marriage, he responded confidently, “What is the objection to marriage? I have seen many political personalities get married at different stages of life. There’s nothing unusual here. We wish him the best.”

The wedding, which is expected to be a low-key, private affair, has nonetheless sparked a variety of reactions on social media and within political circles. Dilip Ghosh had remained a bachelor until now, and the bride, Rinku Majumdar, is a BJP worker from South Kolkata. Rinku is a divorcee and mother to a son who works in the IT sector.

Although Sukant and other senior leaders will not be able to attend the ceremony in the afternoon due to prior commitments, their visit in the morning served as a public display of support. “The marriage will be a domestic one with only a few close people,” Sukant said, adding that he would be heading to Balurghat later in the day.
